| At the glorious age of seven, when little girls should be indoors playing with pretty dolls, I was outside playing in a filthy mud puddle making mud pies. My father taking notice of the complete dirt-ball that I was, had decided to buy me my first plastic table-top pottery wheel for my birthday. Little did I know at that time something as simple as clay from mother earth would take me today. Growing up poor and moving frequently during the 70's and early 80's, made it difficult to pursue my dream to teach art. I attended a career and technology school during my junior and senior years of high school where I was taught architectural and civil drafting. After graduating in 1983, I started working for a local architectural firm as a drafter and moved into the civil engineering business making my way as a designer and project manager. Realizing that I was letting precious time slip away, around 1997 I put away the t-square and mechanical pencils and headed for college to pursue my dream of being an art teacher. As a non-traditional student, college was tough and demanding, but the passion to teach art to children kept my drive and ambition strong. I graduated from McDaniel College in 2001 Summa Cum Laude with a degree to teach Art Pre-k to 12th grade. Getting a full time job teaching art directly out of college did not happen. Knowing that I had to bring in some kind of additional income to support my family, I started to put together my pottery business. One show led to two which led to four and so on. Now I sell my wares at as many as 14 different events a year. Patrons at shows always ask me if I had a web site. Well, for those of you who asked - your wish has been granted. Enjoy! |
